  • Suede: velvet pearly sheen

The packaging is gorgeous - the standard Tom Ford deep brown case with a gold bar embossed with the Tom Ford name. In order to open each single, you pull down the gold bar and lift up the top of the case.

In general every single shade had phenomenal texture, pigmentation, application and blendability, with the exception of Black Onyx which was pretty sheer and patchy.

There are 6 Paillette shades available, however, Fire Sign (rose gold) and Camera Obscura (purple duochrome) were sold out when I purchased, so I only have four of them swatched below:
  • Breathless: neutral silvery sparkle
  • Tempete Bleue: cobalt blue sparkle
  • Emerald Sun: emerald green sparkle
  • Black Onyx: sheer black sparkle
I was hoping these would be like the "sparkle" shades in Tom Ford quads that are so legendary, but surprisingly, they aren't. I much prefer the sparkliness which is more intense and glittery and noticeable in the sparkle formula in the quads compared to the Paillette formula. These are still pretty and sparkly, but I just think the sparkle formula in the quads is better.

The Vinyls turned out to be my favorite finish, and my favorite shade of the whole range if I could only pick one is Body Double. You have to see it in's has a very special sheen and shimmer that makes the eyelids almost glow!
  • Body Double: shimmering champagne golden beige
  • Warm Leatherette: warm coppery shimmer
  • Violet Vinyl: bright magenta-violet shimmer
  • Photographic: teal blue shimmer
  • Purple Reign: grapey purple with pearly sheen
  • Blue Velvet: deep blackish blue shimmer

All have fantastic texture, pigmentation, application and blendability. My personal faves are Body Double, Warm Leatherette and Violet Vinyl.

I am sooo in love with the combination of Violet Vinyl and Purple Reign!! Really makes brown eyes pop!

Of the Sateen finish shades, I'm missing Silver Screen, a satiny silver. The shades I have swatched below are:
  • Exposure: a softly shimmering light pink
  • Moonlighting: a softly shimmering yellowy gold
  • Infrared: a softly shimmering orange with golden shimmers
  • Iris Bronze: a ruddy bronze with soft golden shimmers
  • Smoked Opaline: an olive green with soft golden shimmers

All shades perform wonderfully!

The Suede finish is my second many gorgeous hues in this group and I'm in love with the sugared pearly sheen that each has!
  • Hush: a pearly shell pink
  • Burnt Suede: a pearly taupe
  • Loveshade: a pearly-matte fleshy pink
  • Agenda Rouge: a pearly ruddy red
  • Videotape: a matte deep bordeaux with silver sparkle
  • High Rise: a pearly deep purple-blue...a blurple if you will
Performance, texture, everything is amazing on these!

The Ultrasuede formula is a study in well-done basics, and it's one of the best matte formulas that you'll find. Uniformly smooth, buttery, incredibly pigmented, great to play with. I didn't do eye swatches of these because I was getting tired of swatching haha!

  • Naked City: soft pinkish vanilla
  • Blonde Venus: nude beige
  • Vertigo: cool lavender-grey
  • Starlet: fawn brown
  • Dark Victory: deep bark brown
  • Nightcast: carbon black

Bottom line, my feelings about Tom Ford Private Eyeshadow is... FINALLY!! I'm in love! So many beautiful colors and's kinda overwhelming. I imagine the biggest problem you'll have is choosing which colors to jump for! Have you tried the Private Eyeshadows? Let me know how you like them in the comments below!
