NARS x Charlotte Gainsbourg Collection | Review + Swatches

NARS x Charlotte Gainsbourg swatches review Jo Jeanette Old Church Street Rue Allent Ephelide Promise Cours du Soir Nuit Encre

A few months ago, NARS launched a collection in collaboration with French actress and artist Charlotte Gainsbourg, and although I'm a little late to the party, I'm so excited to share it with you because it's my favourite NARS collection of the past few years!

Every product in the collection is a stand-out for me in terms of colour, texture, finish, quality and harmony with the other products in the collection...as a whole, I feel that the collection truly embodies a modern, contemporary French aesthetic. It's at once edgy yet sophisticated, dramatic yet elegant, intense yet well-calibrated. It strikes a balance that allows for colours that surprise and delight with their boldness and intensity, yet which also manage to translate on the face as effortless, elegant and sophisticated (never as garish or dissonant). There's a softness to it all that creates the balance I'm referring to...maybe you'll notice it in this look:

Anyway, let's get on with the review!

NARS x Charlotte Gainsbourg swatches review Jo Jeanette Alice Multiple Tint

Multiple Tint ($39 for 0.26 oz.): "a multipurpose stick for lips and cheeks that goes fresh and dewy. It delivers a natural-looking wash of color infused with vitamin E to support skin vitality." These are incredibly natural yet still noticeable looking blushes that make your cheeks look like they're blooming from within. I love the stick delivery system, and it just takes a couple of swipes on each cheek to deliver gorgeous, juicy, blooming, translucent colour to the skin. I love how easy they are to apply and blend. You can also use a stippling brush if you're worried about disturbing your foundation / concealer too much. I'm completely in LOVE with these! I hope more colours will be debuting soon in this sheer formula!
  • Jo: medium, warm pink
  • Alice: vibrant, juicy coral pink-red
  • Jeanette: cherry red

Velvet Duo Eyeshadow ($36 for 0.14 oz.): "formulated with pure pigments in soft matte and luminous finishes and can be worn together or separately to create Gainsbourg's subtle smoky eye." The duos both have very velvety, well-pigmented finishes, and the colours are my favourite that I've seen in awhile from NARS. I love both duos so much that it's really difficult to pick a favourite, but if I had to pick just one, I'd go with Old Church Street. The colour combo is so gorgeous and the blue shadow is soooo beautiful and actually incredibly wearable. Both duos deliver unique smoky eye combinations, and I'm pretty obsessed with them both.
  • Old Church Street: a soft rose gold champagne shimmer + an intense, deep Prussian blue matte
  • Rue Allent: a soft, barely-green ivory shimmer + a deep, blackened green shimmer

Lip Tint ($26 for 0.17 oz.): semi-opaque lipglosses that deliver punchy pigmentation with hydrating shine. They are very comfortable on the lips: smooth, slippery and not sticky at all. They wear for 4 hours and leave pigments behind once they're absorbed into the lips, which I really appreciate.
  • Ephelide: plummy rose
  • Double Decker: juicy bright red (here)
  • Promise: reddish plum purple
Kohliner ($26 for 0.01 oz.): described as creamy, blendable, buildable and bold by NARS... I have to agree with all of these descriptors! I picked up Cours du Soir and Nuit Encre, and they are super pigmented, very soft and blendable. They do a wonderful job of intensifying and complementing the look from each respective duo! Lasting power is great (all day on my lower lash line). I haven't tried them on the waterline, so can't speak to lasting power for that application.
  • Cours du Soir: deep prussian navy blue (goes with Old Church Street)
  • Nuit Encre: medium-deep moss green (goes with Rue Allent)
  • Zinc: medium-deep gunmetal grey

And now for the face looks:

I'm so so pleased with the NARS x Charlotte Gainsbourg collection...I love every single piece that I picked up, and I'm really especially taken with the Multiple Tints (want to add Alice to my collection) and the Velvet Eyeshadow Duos. They are really something special.

    1. Aw, yay, I'm so glad this was helpful! I need to check out the hydrating glow tint, although I'm pretty sure it might be out of control on my face since I get so oily...but everything else has been so fantastic. I hope NARS does more collabs like this in the future because this one is sooo on point!
