Chanel Summer 2017 Cruise Collection Makeup Review + Swatches

chanel summer 2017 cruise collection makeup review swatches

Chanel's Summer 2017 Cruise Collection has arrived just in time for summer, hot on the heels of the Ombre Premiere Eye Collection (reviewed here), and it's pretty glorious! Subtly shimmering highlighting and bronzing powders, luscious nude lip colours, juicy corals and a few stunning, dark accents round out what has turned out to be a really gorgeous collection. Keep reading for swatches, face looks and the full review!

Les Beiges Healthy Glow Luminous Colour ($58 for 0.42 oz.) is a relatively new addition to the Les Beiges collection which comes in 6 shades from Light to Deep. Unlike the original Les Beiges powders, these have a subtle yet noticeable amount of shimmer, and they are perfect for creating beautifully luminous highlights and bronzey, sun-kissed contours. I picked them up in Light and Medium, and I absolutely love the subtle, pearlescent effect they create. In a market saturated with shimmering highlighters, I think these stand apart due to the subtle yet beautiful quality of the shimmer. It is so natural and lovely, never frosty - I'm very happy to add these to my stash!

The Cruise Collection includes 3 new shades of Rouge Coco Stylo ($37 for 0.07 oz.). While I still think these are overpriced and too "soft" (they tend to get crushed easily), the colours are very beautiful. They are full coverage with a glossy, comfortable shine and lightly hydrating. They wear for 3-6 hours depending on whether you're eating and what you're eating!
  • 217 Panorama is a neutral nude
  • 227 Esquisse is a warm coral
  • 207 Sepia is a dark brownish red (a little sheerness to it)

There are also two new Rouge Coco Shines ($37 for 0.10 oz.) as part of the summer collection. They have medium coverage with the hint of sheerness and pretty shine that lovers of this formula are such a fan of. Both colours are perfect for summer and are likely universally flattering.
  • 527 Golden Sun is a soft creamy orange
  • 537 Golden Sand is a beige nude

The Le Vernis ($28 for 0.40 oz.) nail polishes are my favourite part of the collection! The colours are gorgeous and summery, both standard and unexpected. The coverage on each is excellent - all are two coat polishes and are a pleasure to apply and wear.
  • 560 Coquillage is a creamsicle orange
  • 564 Sea Whip is a medium warm coral pink
  • 562 Coralium is a warm reddish coral
  • 558 Sargasso is a dark blackened teal green shimmer
And now on to swatches!

Chanel's Stylo Yeux Eye Liner ($33 for 0.01 oz.) comes in two shades: 847 Terra Rossa, a gorgeous purple, and 837 Horizon, a greyish black.

The collection also includes two new colours of Inimitable Waterproof Mascara ($32) 87 Vert Profond and 97 Brun Profond.

I also pulled some polishes from my collection for comparison, and I couldn't believe it but I actually found pretty much exact dupes for the three coral polishes!

The dupes are as follows:
  • Zoya Cassi for 560 Coquillage: the main difference is Cassi has a hint of translucency and pretty silver shimmer
  • Essie Tart Deco for 564 Sea Whip: pretty much the same, maybe Sea Whip is a little more pink
  • Essie Sunday Funday for 562 Coralium: exact dupe plus shimmer in Sunday Funday
In the first three swatch photos below, the middle photos contain the comparison of the dupe and Chanel polishes. The dupe polishes are always shown on the index and ring fingers. Sargasso doesn't have a dupe in case it wasn't clear.

My favourite items from the collection are the Les Beiges powders and the polishes. Sargasso is so sooo special...I'm in love with the colour. It's so unique and gorgeous...it's got just enough colour to not look completely black, and enough shimmer to not look like a straight cream. The colour is complex and lovely, and on the nails, it's just so stunning!

Do you see anything that you want to take home?

  1. Uh oh, that Terra Rosa Stylo is catching my eye! And Horizon is pretty too, but I don't wear black eyeliner that often (Katherine T.)

  2. The chanel products released this summer are amazing. I was really happy with the quality of their beauty products. The bronzing powders and the lip colors offered by them were great. Their makeup products withstand extreme climatic conditions.I recommended their products to my friends and relatives.
